Mumbai, May 28: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has detained habitual drug offender Rahul Balakrishna Shedge under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1988. Officials stated that this action marks a significant step towards cracking down on repeat offenders involved in drug trafficking.
According to reports, the detention order was issued on May 14, 2026, by the competent authority of the Government of India under the PITNDPS Act, which the NCB executed on May 27, 2026. Following this, the accused has been placed in Taloja Central Jail in Navi Mumbai.
Rahul Balakrishna Shedge is described as a habitual criminal who has been involved in the illegal drug trade and related activities for several years. Despite being arrested multiple times by various law enforcement agencies and facing numerous charges, he has remained active in these illegal activities.
His criminal record dates back to 2009 when he was first arrested by the DRI Mumbai in a case involving psychotropic substances such as Alprazolam, Nordazepam, Amphetamine, and Diazepam. After being released on bail, he reportedly resumed illegal activities and was arrested again in 2012 by the NCB Mumbai in an interstate ketamine trafficking case.
In 2018, the DRI Mumbai arrested him once more for involvement in illegal drug manufacturing activities. In 2025, the NCB Mumbai uncovered a secret chemical laboratory in Raigad district of Maharashtra, where he was found to be producing an intermediate chemical related to ketamine production. Investigations revealed that he attempted to evade legal action by stopping the process just before the final stage.
According to officials, the accused used his knowledge of chemistry to conceal illegal activities and alter methods of drug production. Despite repeated arrests and ongoing legal battles, his criminal activities continued, leading to his preventive detention under the PITNDPS this time.
