NCB Seizes ₹43 Crore Methamphetamine Tablets in Guwahati, Two Arrested

Guwahati, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Guwahati has achieved a significant victory in its campaign against organized drug trafficking. On October 6, following reliable intelligence, NCB officials intercepted two trucks and seized 53.937 kilograms of methamphetamine tablets, valued at approximately ₹43 crore in the illegal market. Two drug traffickers were arrested during this operation.

According to the NCB, the trucks were stopped based on credible information, leading to a thorough search. During the inspection, hidden compartments were discovered within the fuel tanks, ingeniously designed to smuggle narcotics and evade detection by law enforcement. Both suspects are residents of Bishnupur in Manipur.

Investigations revealed that the seized shipment originated from Myanmar, thwarting a significant trafficking attempt. Authorities are now working to identify international suppliers, domestic receivers, financiers, transporters, handlers, and other collaborators involved in the drug supply chain to dismantle the entire network.

Additionally, as part of a special operation called “Operation Catch the Fugitives,” six key suspects wanted in various Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) cases have been apprehended. Among those arrested, two are from Assam, while one each hails from Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, and Tripura. This initiative reflects the NCB’s commitment to capturing wanted individuals beyond geographical boundaries and strengthening the investigation and prosecution process through ongoing follow-ups in pending NDPS cases.

The NCB emphasized that its strategy in Assam and the northeastern region extends beyond mere seizures. The goal is to identify and dismantle the entire drug trafficking network, targeting international sources, transit routes, financiers, logistics providers, distributors, and key operators. Recognizing the organized and cross-border nature of drug trafficking, the NCB is enhancing its operations through intelligence sharing and collaboration with state police, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force, Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, ASB, Customs, DRI, NIA, ED, and other agencies.

The NCB remains committed to tracking every link in the drug supply chain, monitoring financial transactions, and dismantling organized syndicates to bolster the national resolve for a “Drug-Free India.”
