Attappady, Kerala, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken notice of the shocking murders of a woman and her child in Attappady, located in Kerala’s Palakkad district. The commission has requested a detailed report from the state police within a week.
According to media reports, the dismembered and decomposed bodies of the victims were discovered stuffed in bags and discarded along the banks of the Bhavani River.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has written to the Director General of Police (DGP) in Kerala, urging the immediate arrest of the prime suspect, the identification of potential accomplices, and a thorough and impartial investigation. She emphasized the need to preserve forensic evidence.
The commission also called for necessary support and assistance for the victims’ families throughout the identification and legal processes. The NCW has demanded an Action Taken Report (ATR) within seven days, asserting that there can be no compromise on the life, dignity, and safety of women and children.
In the ongoing investigation, a migrant laborer from West Bengal has come under police suspicion. He is believed to be involved in the murders of his wife and five-year-old daughter. The remains of the woman and child were found in bags along the riverbank.
Investigators revealed that this individual had arrived in the area with his family about 25 days prior. Police suspect that he may have been responsible for the killings. It has also surfaced that he harbored doubts about his wife, which is being considered as a possible motive for the crime. Initial inquiries suggest that the deceased were indeed his wife and daughter.
Authorities have confirmed that the victims were from West Bengal, reinforcing the notion that this case involves a migrant family. However, their identities have yet to be officially verified.
During the investigation, police uncovered a significant clue from one of the bags containing the body parts. Information written on the bag indicated that it had been transported from Coimbatore to a shop in Kottathara, Attappady, along with other goods.
Law enforcement is currently examining the batch number and other markings on the bag to trace its origin. Based on this lead, the Puthur police have launched an extensive investigation, scrutinizing wholesale and retail shops in Attappady and areas bordering Tamil Nadu. They are also reviewing CCTV footage to determine who purchased and transported the bags.
