New Delhi, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat addressed several significant issues during a recent discussion in New Delhi. He touched upon Rahul Gandhi’s meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the food menu controversy at BRICS, and the ongoing Haldwani dispute, among other topics.
Regarding the BRICS summit, Rawat noted that while there was consensus on some matters, larger questions remain unresolved. He expressed concern over the escalating arms race linked to current conflicts and the potential misuse of artificial intelligence as a weapon. “This is a very dangerous situation,” he stated, emphasizing the need for comprehensive discussion. He added that there should not be a monopoly by any single country and expressed hope for discussions on strengthening local currencies as an alternative to the dollar, asserting that merely issuing a joint statement is insufficient.
On the topic of terrorism, Rawat mentioned that there was agreement among BRICS nations to unite against this threat. However, he highlighted the need for China to take responsibility for its support of Pakistan, which he accused of establishing terrorist camps against India. He urged for dialogue on how to ease tensions along the China-India border, stating that friendship can only progress with open and clear communication.
Addressing the controversy over vegetarian meals at the summit, Rawat remarked that internal politics should not overshadow the dinner’s purpose. He insisted that the meal should reflect the diversity of the nation, cautioning against any overt political representation that could lead to questions.
Rawat also commented positively on Rahul Gandhi’s meeting with Anwar Ibrahim, following the Malaysian Prime Minister’s tribute to former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He noted the historical ties between Malaysia and India, emphasizing the tradition of foreign guests meeting with opposition leaders.
In response to the recent FIR related to the ‘purification’ controversy in Haldwani, Rawat condemned the actions taken there as an attack on the Constitution and an insult to the SC/ST Act. He called for legal action against those responsible, asserting that they should be treated as criminals under the law.
