Chandigarh, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab during a rally in Kakarala village, Patiala, on Sunday. He emphasized that the people of Punjab are looking for development, job opportunities, and solutions to their issues, rather than empty promises and advertisements.
Saini pointed out that Punjab has always been known for its talent and hard work. However, he attributed the state’s lag in development to poor policies and leadership. He remarked that while Punjab and Haryana are separate states, their cultures, heritage, and roots are intertwined.
The CM raised concerns about why, despite fertile land and hardworking citizens, Punjab is falling behind in development. He noted that Punjab was once among the most prosperous states in India, but Haryana has now surpassed it in economic growth. He projected Haryana’s economic growth rate for 2025-26 at 9.5%, compared to Punjab’s 6.1%. Furthermore, he estimated Haryana’s economy at approximately ₹15.18 lakh crore for 2026-27, while Punjab’s economy is expected to be around ₹9.81 lakh crore.
Saini highlighted a significant economic disparity of ₹5.38 lakh crore between the two states, attributing this to effective policies and accountable leadership. He also mentioned that in 2023-24, Haryana contributed 3.6% to the national GDP, while Punjab contributed only 2.4%. Additionally, Haryana’s per capita income stands at 176.8% of the national average, whereas Punjab’s is at 106.7%.
The Chief Minister accused the AAP government of prioritizing publicity over actual work, claiming that mere promises do not strengthen an economy. He stated that a robust economy is built on providing security to industries, creating jobs for youth, instilling confidence in businesses, and ensuring fair prices for farmers.
Saini asserted that it is the government’s duty to listen to the people’s problems and find solutions. He remarked, “Jokes belong in cinemas, but discussions about development and problem-solving belong among the people.”
He also took aim at the Congress party, stating that they had made grand promises to the people of Punjab, which went unfulfilled. He noted that AAP had also made several commitments, but these remained unaddressed, leaving citizens without relief from their issues.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Saini claimed that the BJP government in Haryana is committed to fulfilling promises made to the public. He mentioned that out of 217 promises made during the 2024 assembly elections, 70 have already been completed within 18 months.
The rally was attended by former Union Minister Preneet Kaur, Prof. Malkeet Singh, and other dignitaries. Hundreds of individuals joined the BJP during the event, welcomed by the Chief Minister.
