Naresh Iyer’s Journey from Reality TV to AR Rahman’s Favourite Singer

Mumbai, 2 January. Bollywood songs enjoy immense popularity not only in India but also abroad. Behind these songs are the hard work and dedication of musicians and singers. One such talented young singer is Naresh Iyer, whose songs touch the hearts of many. Interestingly, Naresh began his career through the television reality show ‘Super Singer’.

At that time, he had no idea that his voice would be so special that the renowned composer AR Rahman himself would be impressed and offer him opportunities to sing for films.

Naresh Iyer was born on 3 January 1981 in Mumbai. His parents were classical singers, so he grew up in a musical environment and learned music as naturally as his school studies.

He showed interest in singing from a young age and gradually polished his voice and singing skills. His favourite singers included Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi, and Manna Dey.

Besides them, voices like KK, Chitra, and SP Balasubrahmanyam deepened his understanding of music.

Starting his career by participating in Channel V’s ‘Super Singer’ competition changed the course of his life. AR Rahman, hearing his voice there, selected him for the film ‘Rang De Basanti’. Songs like ‘Rubaru’ and ‘Pathshala’ sung by Naresh became very popular. His voice carried a unique energy and sweetness that captivated both audiences and music composers.

After this, Naresh sang in many films. Songs like ‘Pappu Can’t Dance Saala’ and ‘Nazrein Milana Nazrein Churana’ from ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ made him extremely popular among the youth. He also impressed with songs like ‘Kaala Bandar’ in ‘Delhi 6’. Naresh has sung not only in Hindi but also in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada films.

His hard work and talent have earned him many awards. He won the National Award for ‘Rubaru’ and received a Filmfare Award in the very first year of his career.
