New Delhi, March 22: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of senior Maharashtra leader Dattabhau Megha. The veteran politician passed away on Sunday evening at the age of 89 due to old age. His demise has sent shockwaves through Maharashtra’s political, educational, and social spheres.
Gadkari took to the social media platform ‘X’ to share his grief, stating, “The news of the passing of the venerable leader, former state minister, and my elder brother figure, Dattabhau Megha, is extremely heartbreaking. I offer my heartfelt tributes. His departure marks an irreplaceable loss for the political and social landscape of Vidarbha. A leader with such a generous nature and a pure heart will not be found again.”
Reflecting on Megha’s contributions, Gadkari noted, “Dattabhau’s impact on education and healthcare in Vidarbha has been remarkable and significant. From Gadchiroli to Melghat, he tirelessly worked to improve the health of tribal communities through free medical camps.”
He further added, “In Sawangi Megha, he provided free medical treatment to the underprivileged. To offer higher education opportunities to the youth of Vidarbha, he paved the way through educational institutions. Despite being ideologically opposed in my early political days, Dattabhau always showered me with affection and guidance.”
The Union Minister emphasized, “He always treated me like a younger brother. Despite his ill health, his enthusiasm for working for the senior citizens of Vidarbha never waned. His inclusive leadership was a model for political activists. May God grant peace to the departed soul and provide strength to his family and all well-wishers to overcome this sorrow. Om Shanti.”
