Mumbai Indians Make History with Victory Over KKR, Breaking Five-Year-Old Record

Mumbai, March 30: Mumbai Indians achieved a historic milestone by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by six wickets in the second match of IPL 2026 on Sunday. The standout performers for Mumbai were Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton, who led the team to its biggest successful run chase in IPL history at Wankhede Stadium.

Chasing a target of 221 runs set by KKR, Mumbai Indians reached their goal in just 19.1 overs, losing four wickets in the process. This victory allowed Mumbai to break their five-year-old record, which was previously set in 2021 when they successfully chased down 219 runs against Chennai Super Kings. This chase also marks the sixth-largest in IPL history.

Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton provided a fantastic start, combining for 148 runs for the first wicket in just 11.5 overs. The KKR bowlers struggled to contain the duo. Rohit played a brilliant innings, scoring 78 runs off 38 balls at a strike rate of 205, hitting six fours and six sixes. Rickelton also showcased his form, scoring 81 runs off 43 balls at a strike rate of 188, including four fours and eight sixes. Tilak Varma contributed 20 runs off 14 balls, while captain Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten with 18 runs off 11 balls.

Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders posted a total of 220 runs after losing four wickets in their 20 overs. Captain Ajinkya Rahane led the charge with a stellar 67 runs off 40 balls. Finn Allen added 37 runs in just 17 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes. Ankur Raghuwanshi also made a significant contribution with 51 runs off 29 balls at a strike rate of 175. In the final overs, Rinku Singh scored an unbeaten 33 runs off 21 balls. This victory marks the first win for Mumbai in an IPL season after 13 years.
