Chandrababu Naidu Calls for Celebrations Following Amaravati Bill Passage

Mumbai, April 2: Following the passage of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization (Amendment) Bill 2026 in the Lok Sabha, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu urged citizens to celebrate across all villages in the Amaravati region on Thursday.

The new bill provides legal recognition to Amaravati as the sole capital, resolving long-standing structural uncertainties that have impacted governance, investment, and development. The Andhra Pradesh Reorganization (Amendment) Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on Wednesday and is expected to receive approval from the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

During a teleconference with NDA leaders, Naidu emphasized that celebrations should be organized in every village after the bill’s passage in the Rajya Sabha. He stated that once the bill is approved, the legislative process in Parliament will be considered complete.

“This is a time for everyone to celebrate our capital in whatever way they deem appropriate. Today, everyone should express gratitude to the central government for the approval of the Amaravati Bill,” he said.

Naidu announced that he would participate in the celebrations at Undavalli, the site where the foundation stone of the capital city was laid. He described Undavalli as a sacred place, preserving soil and water collected from various holy pilgrimage sites across the country.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their support in ensuring the stability of the capital city. He also thanked all parties that backed the bill.

Criticizing former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Naidu pointed out that he left the state without a capital for five years. “Jagan Mohan Reddy doesn’t even like to mention Amaravati. That’s why he coined the strange name ‘Mavigun’,” he remarked.

Reddy had stated on Wednesday that the YSR Congress Party proposed a ‘Plan B’ to develop the Machilipatnam-Vijayawada-Guntur (Mavigun) corridor as the capital region, but the coalition government did not consider it. Naidu reminded that when an institution was named ‘SRM Amaravati,’ Reddy changed it to just ‘SRM.’

“Jagan has a hatred for the name Amaravati and continues to spew venom against it. Recent events have made it clear that his antagonistic attitude towards Amaravati will not change in the future,” Naidu added.

The Chief Minister appealed to every citizen to foster the belief that Amaravati is our capital. “Everyone should pray that the development we envisioned progresses smoothly and successfully,” he stated.

He reiterated that the government will ensure the establishment of a High Court bench in Kurnool as soon as possible.

Jana Sena Party Minister Nadendla Manohar and BJP state unit president Madhav participated in the teleconference and welcomed the passage of the bill. They announced that both Jana Sena and BJP would take part in the planned celebrations later that evening.
