Kolkata, April 10: In a thrilling encounter of IPL 2026, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) triumphed over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by three wickets. The standout performer for LSG was 21-year-old batsman Mukul Chaudhary, who expressed that this was a golden opportunity for him to make a name for himself. “I just wanted to stay at the crease until the end,” he stated.
After leading his team to victory, Mukul shared, “My father dreamed of me playing cricket. I started playing at the age-group level, but there weren’t good academies in Sikkim. Playing matches in Delhi and Gurgaon helped me a lot. When I played against Uttar Pradesh in the Under-19s, it was a low-scoring match, and I made a significant contribution. That was when they believed I would achieve something big. It was only my second match.”
He added, “God has given me this opportunity; there may be pressure, but it was also a fantastic chance to make my mark. My goal was to bat till the end and see what happens. I really enjoyed hitting my first six. I hadn’t hit a six in the last two matches, so this one was special for me. I was sure that one of the four balls would come into my zone, and I was just waiting for it. Since childhood, I have preferred hitting sixes over playing grounded shots.”
Chasing a target of 182 runs set by KKR, LSG started strong. Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram added 41 runs for the first wicket. Markram scored 22 runs before getting out, while Marsh managed only 15. Captain Rishabh Pant had a disappointing outing, falling for just 10 runs. Nicholas Pooran also returned cheaply. Ayush Badoni played a crucial innings, scoring 54 runs off 34 balls, including seven fours and two sixes, at a time when LSG was struggling at 128 runs.
However, Mukul Chaudhary took charge, scoring an unbeaten 54 runs off just 27 balls. He hit two fours and seven towering sixes, playing at a strike rate of 200, and snatched the match from KKR’s grasp. He formed an unbroken partnership of 54 runs for the eighth wicket with Avesh, leading LSG to victory by three wickets.
Earlier, KKR posted a total of 181 runs, losing four wickets in their 20 overs. Ajinkya Rahane scored 41 runs, while Angkrish Raghuwanshi contributed 45 runs off 33 balls. Cameron Green added 32 runs off 24 balls, and Rovman Powell finished with an unbeaten 39 runs off 24 balls. Green and Powell shared a partnership of 70 runs off 40 balls.
