Moeen Ali Returns to Domestic Cricket with Yorkshire

Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali has announced his return to domestic cricket, signing a contract with Yorkshire County Cricket Club for the 2026 season. The deal, confirmed by Yorkshire on Wednesday, has the option to be extended until 2027.

In a statement issued by the club, Moeen expressed his excitement about joining Yorkshire for the Vitality Blast tournament. “I am very happy to join Yorkshire for the Blast. It is a big club with a proud history, but what excites me most is the direction the team is heading. There is a lot of talent here. I look forward to working with Anthony and helping the group progress. I have always enjoyed playing at Headingley – the pitch, atmosphere, and supporters make it a special place. This feels like a new challenge and I am hungry for it. I want to bring my experience, enjoy my cricket, and help Yorkshire compete,” he said.

Yorkshire, which has yet to win the Blast title, finished eighth last season in the North Group out of nine teams. During the off-season, the club lost key players David Malan to Gloucestershire and Jordan Thompson to Warwickshire but strengthened their squad by signing overseas players Sam Whiteman, Andrew Tye, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Logan van Beek.

Yorkshire’s Cricket General Manager Gavin Hamilton praised Moeen’s addition, stating, “Moeen is a world-class all-rounder whose impact goes beyond his on-field skills. His experience and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our T20 squad and build a consistently competitive team in the Blast. He will make his presence felt in the dressing room and have a positive influence on the entire club and Yorkshire cricket.”

Hamilton added that Moeen’s decision to join Yorkshire reflects the club’s forward momentum and the environment they are creating. “We are excited about what Moeen will bring, not just in terms of performance, but also in setting standards and helping the group move forward.”

Moeen Ali brings a wealth of T20 experience, having played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and other top global leagues. He has won the IPL title twice with Chennai Super Kings and was instrumental in helping Worcestershire win their first Vitality Blast title in 2018.

Over his T20 career, Moeen has played 420 matches across international and league cricket, scoring 7,792 runs with 3 centuries and 37 half-centuries. His highest score is 121, and he has taken 271 wickets. His vast experience is expected to be a valuable asset for Yorkshire in the upcoming season. Moeen retired from international cricket in 2024.
