Mau, June 13: The Uttar Pradesh administration is on high alert for potential flooding. District Magistrate Anand Vardhan announced that a mock drill was organized across 118 districts in the state to prepare for possible flood situations. In Mau, the drill took place in the flood-prone areas of Ghosi and Madhuban.
Vardhan explained that the exercise involved the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), police forces, local administration, and other relevant departments. A hypothetical scenario was created to demonstrate how to rescue individuals during a flood, provide first aid, and transport them to safety.
The drill engaged local villagers, as raising awareness was a key objective of this initiative. Vardhan believes that this mock drill will be highly beneficial for the flood-affected villages. He noted that while the frequency and intensity of floods were significantly lower last year, the administration aims to ensure better preparedness this year.
Addressing concerns about recurring issues in flood-affected areas, the District Magistrate stated that the irrigation department has secured most sensitive areas with embankments based on high flood level assessments. However, some regions still lack these protections.
He mentioned that project proposals for these areas have been sent to the state government, and efforts are underway to secure prompt approval. Additionally, safety measures are being prioritized in areas at high risk of erosion before the flood season begins to mitigate the impact and severity of potential floods.
Currently, two significant projects are underway in the district, which Vardhan has personally inspected. The administration aims to complete these projects by June 15 to enhance safety for residents in light of possible flooding.
