CGTN Survey Highlights SCOs Role in Global Governance

Beijing, August 31: On the occasion of the 2026 SCO Summit, the China Global Television Network (CGTN), under the China Media Group (CMG), conducted a survey among global netizens. A total of 13,707 respondents from 48 countries participated in this survey.

Approximately 74.6% of respondents believe that the SCO provides a practical pathway for cooperation among countries with different systems. They see it as a significant force in fostering new types of international relations and building a community with a shared future for humanity.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the SCO’s establishment. Over the past 25 years, trade between China and other SCO member countries has surged from $12.1 billion in 2001 to an impressive $523.5 billion by 2025.

Projects such as the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway, the SCO Development Bank, and the China-Central Asia Gas Pipeline are progressing well.

Global respondents praised the practical achievements of the SCO in various fields over the past 25 years. They noted that the organization’s international influence has significantly increased in three main areas: trade facilitation, investment and financing cooperation, and cultural exchange and tourism.

Survey participants also commended China’s ideology and contributions to building a community with a shared future within the SCO. They unanimously agreed that China’s role in regional economic cooperation, security collaboration among member states, and development and financial assistance is particularly noteworthy.

As a crucial force for improving global governance, the SCO plays an increasingly important role in promoting true multilateralism, encouraging a fair and orderly multipolar world, and advancing inclusive economic globalization. The survey revealed that 89.6% of respondents called for all parties to participate equally in global affairs and collaboratively establish international rules and order. There are hopes that the SCO will have a greater impact on fundamental institutions, energy, regional security cooperation, and environmental and climate change issues.
