Mumbai, March 25: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has issued a stern warning to railway authorities, demanding the restoration of the Dadar-Ratnagiri passenger train service within 15 days. The party has stated that if the train is not reinstated to operate from Dadar to Ratnagiri, they will halt all express trains heading to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
MNS leaders made this announcement during a press conference in Mumbai on Tuesday. They highlighted that the Dadar-Ratnagiri passenger train previously provided direct service from Dadar to Ratnagiri, greatly benefiting millions of travelers in the Konkan region. However, this service was temporarily suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the train service resumed, it has not been restored to Dadar and is now limited to Diva station in Thane district.
This decision has caused significant inconvenience for travelers in Konkan, who now must first travel to Diva before catching a train to their destination. MNS has accused the railways of making this change without adequate justification and ignoring repeated requests from the public.
MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande stated, “If the Dadar-Ratnagiri passenger train is not reinstated to its original route within 15-20 days, we will be compelled to stop all express trains heading to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.” The party warned that this movement is a fight for the rights of the people of Konkan and will continue at all costs.
Currently, the slot for the Dadar-Ratnagiri passenger train has been permanently allocated to the Dadar-Gorakhpur Express, further escalating tensions. Travelers from Konkan have expressed concerns that the railways are prioritizing northern Indian passengers while neglecting the needs of local residents.
The MNS stance once again brings to the forefront issues surrounding northern Indians and the Hindi language. Under the leadership of party chief Raj Thackeray, MNS has long championed the slogan “Maharashtra for Marathi people.”
