Ahmedabad, July 30: A mild earthquake measuring 2.6 on the Richter scale was recorded early Thursday near the Bavla area in Ahmedabad district, Gujarat. Dr. Santosh Kumar, a scientist, stated that this earthquake had a very low intensity, making it unlikely for the general public to feel it. The tremors were only detected by sensitive seismic measuring instruments, and there is no expectation of any damage.
Dr. Santosh Kumar explained that the earthquake occurred around 4:40 AM, with its epicenter located approximately 25 kilometers from Ahmedabad, near the Bavla region. He described it as an isolated seismic event, noting that its low intensity likely meant that nearby residents did not feel any tremors.
He clarified that earthquakes of such low magnitude are typically recorded only by scientific instruments and pose no risk of harm to people or property.
Regarding the causes of the earthquake, Dr. Santosh Kumar mentioned that this type of seismic activity has been recorded in the Bavla area for the first time, but it should not be considered unusual or alarming. The Cambay Fault runs near Ahmedabad, extending from the Rajasthan border in northern Gujarat to the Cambay region and further towards Anand and Surat. This earthquake occurred in proximity to the Cambay Fault. Mild seismic activities in such geological fault areas are a normal part of the process and should not be interpreted as a sign of significant danger.
Dr. Santosh Kumar urged the public to disregard rumors and avoid unnecessary panic. He emphasized that this 2.6 magnitude earthquake is a very minor and isolated event, with no likelihood of causing any damage. Based on available data, it seems that the general public did not feel this earthquake due to its minimal intensity, which was only recorded by earthquake monitoring devices.
