Washington, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : Iranian President Masoud Pajeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin recently held a phone conversation to reinforce their strategic partnership. The discussion, which took place on October 8, emphasized the importance of continuing and strengthening bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
According to a statement published on the Iranian president’s office website, Pajeshkian highlighted the need for both nations to enhance their collaboration, stating that advancing their mutual interests is crucial.
Despite ongoing regional developments, Putin affirmed that the partnership between Russia and Iran remains robust under their comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement. He stressed the necessity of maintaining close ties and collaboration between Moscow and Tehran.
Putin also referred to the efforts by certain countries to mediate between Iran and the United States, aiming to reduce tensions in the Middle East. He expressed Russia’s support for these diplomatic initiatives and indicated a readiness to play a role if needed.
Tensions escalated earlier this year when Israel and the U.S. launched attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities on February 28. In retaliation, Iran targeted Israeli and U.S. positions in the region with missile and drone strikes, tightening its control over the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire was established on April 8, and on June 18, Iran and the U.S. signed a memorandum of understanding to end hostilities in the region. This agreement required both nations to engage in talks within 60 days, which concluded on August 17, with the goal of reaching a final accord. However, escalating tensions have hindered significant progress toward an agreement.
