New Delhi, August 14: The Melbourne Renegades have announced the appointment of Gavin Twining as their new head coach for the upcoming season of the Women’s Big Bash League. Currently serving as an assistant coach for the Australian women’s team, Twining takes over from Simon Helmot, who left his position during the off-season to pursue opportunities with another franchise.
Twining will join the Renegades following Australia’s series against Bangladesh and New Zealand in October. After the season concludes, he will return to the Australian women’s team. He has previously collaborated with Renegades and Australian captain Sophie Molineux. During his absence, Clint McKay, the Renegades’ high-performance manager, will lead the team during the T20 Spring Challenge.
Max Abbott, the general manager of the Renegades, stated, “Gavin is crucial for us. He brings World Cup-winning experience to the team. There is already a positive atmosphere within the squad. Gavin is well-suited to work with our experienced leaders and enhance the team’s performance.”
Twining expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “The Renegades are a talented and strong team. I am eager to help the players take the next step and advance the club’s success. Being part of the Australian team’s World Cup campaign, I look forward to bringing those experiences into the Renegades environment and contributing to outstanding performances.”
Discussions regarding privatization in the Big Bash League are ongoing, but the situation remains unclear. For now, the Melbourne Renegades will continue under their current model, overseen by Cricket Australia.
Cricket Victoria has ended its relationship with this management and plans to sell its second BBL license while operating a side. Uncertainty surrounds the sales process.
In the men’s BBL, Luke Ronchi will serve as the head coach for the Melbourne Renegades.
