Srinagar, April 9: Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Farooq Abdullah, head of the National Conference, have responded to the recent ceasefire between the US and Iran. Mufti expressed that this is a joyous day for the Muslim community, while Abdullah emphasized that no one benefits from war.
Abdullah pointed out that Israel has suffered significant losses in this conflict, which has led to widespread devastation. He questioned the benefits of any war, stating that destruction only increases and that it is time for this conflict to end.
In a conversation with reporters in Srinagar, Mufti remarked that if both parties are willing to come to the negotiation table, it is good news for the Muslim community. She acknowledged Pakistan’s crucial role in helping to steer the world away from the brink of war.
Mufti further commended Iran’s bravery and resilience, contrasting it with the actions of the US and Israel, who have attacked Iranian schools, taken lives, and destroyed infrastructure. She noted that Iran has targeted only military installations and has refrained from attacking schools and hospitals.
The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir stated that despite the challenging circumstances, the Iranian people have remained composed, deserving recognition for their restraint. She hopes that this ceasefire will be permanent, allowing Iran to progress once again.
Speaking at a party event welcoming new members, Mufti expressed her heartfelt welcome to all joining the PDP. She views the entry of youth into the party as a positive step, especially since current issues predominantly affect young people. She highlighted concerns about youth being summoned to police stations and detained for social media posts, as well as the burden of unemployment. The current environment is stifling for youth, who often feel unable to express themselves freely. She expressed joy at the youth joining her party.
