Shillong: The Meghalaya government is considering seeking assistance from central agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the threatening posters attributed to the terrorist group ISIS-K, which were recently found in West Garo Hills. The appearance of these posters has raised security concerns across the region, officials said on Wednesday.
Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Preston Tynsong stated that the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness and the investigation is currently in its early stages. Speaking to the media, he cautioned against drawing premature conclusions.

“At this time, it is not appropriate to elaborate. The investigation is ongoing, and it is too early to say whether any mischievous or opportunistic elements are involved. If necessary, the state government will certainly seek help from central agencies,” Tynsong said.
The posters, attributed to ISIS-K, reportedly warn members of the Garo community to vacate areas in and around West Garo Hills, declaring these regions as “their territory.” The areas mentioned include Phulbari, Rajabala, Tikrikilla, Selsella, Garobadha, and Tura.
According to the posters, those who fail to leave these areas by 2027 will face serious consequences. The name “Aminur Islam,” identified as the Plain Belt Area Commander, is also featured on the posters, heightening concerns among security agencies. The posters were found near New Tura Machokolgre, close to the law college in the Araimile area of West Garo Hills.
Following the circulation of the posters’ images on social media, the police promptly responded by cordoning off the area and conducting a thorough search operation.
Senior police officials informed that verification of the posters’ authenticity is underway, along with efforts to identify those responsible for distributing them. As a precaution, security has been tightened in sensitive locations.
The administration has urged the public to maintain peace and avoid spreading rumours, assuring that all necessary measures are being taken to uphold law and order and ensure safety in the state.
