Lucknow, August 9: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) President Mayawati has sharply criticized the recent remarks made by the RSS chief regarding the creamy layer in reservation. She stated that discussing the creamy layer is not only inappropriate but also contradicts the sacred objectives of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar’s humanitarian Constitution.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Mayawati wrote, “In the country, reservation for the SC, ST, and OBC communities is a crucial and sensitive issue linked to their self-respect and is essential for social change and economic liberation. This matter becomes even more critical for the SC and ST communities, who have faced centuries of oppression and discrimination, especially when caste-based hatred and exploitation show no signs of diminishing.”
Mayawati further emphasized, “Therefore, discussing the creamy layer is not just inappropriate, but it also goes against the sacred purposes of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s humanitarian Constitution. This should not be overlooked; everyone must implement it with full honesty and dedication in the interest of the nation and its people.”
She criticized the RSS chief’s recent statement suggesting that “reservation has been deliberately politicized, causing bitterness in society, and beneficiaries should voluntarily relinquish their benefits.” Mayawati argued that such views reflect a casteist mindset that may serve narrow political interests but undermine constitutional objectives. She stressed that reservation is fundamentally about granting millions of oppressed and marginalized individuals their constitutional and legal rights to equality and equity, which cannot be measured solely by economic progress.
Mayawati pointed out that the scourge of casteism affects every aspect of life, a reality that the RSS should be well aware of. She noted that all governments at the center are also fully aware of this bitter ground reality. If the current government effectively advocates in court, based on valid arguments, to keep the SC and ST communities exempt from the creamy layer, it would be entirely appropriate and constitutional.
She added, “It has often been observed that due to the government’s lackadaisical attitude and poor legal advocacy, courts fail to deliver justice in matters of ‘social change.’ I urge the RSS to cease politicizing reservation while fully respecting Babasaheb Ambedkar’s humanitarian and welfare-oriented Constitution.”
Mayawati concluded by stating that it would be better for the RSS to stop advocating any tampering with reservation and to fully cooperate in fulfilling the constitutional obligations of establishing an egalitarian society, as this is the need of the hour.
