Tehran, August 9: Iran’s President Masoud Pajeckian stated that Tehran will pursue a path of peace under the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United States, provided Washington fosters an atmosphere of trust.
During a press conference on Saturday, Pajeckian emphasized that Iran is striving to advance along the path of peace based on the paragraphs of the MoU. He remarked, “Now is the best time to reach an agreement, as there is unity, strength, and solidarity within the country.”
He asserted, “We are determined to move forward based on the memorandum, as long as the U.S. eliminates the atmosphere of distrust it has created and fosters a climate of confidence.”
Pajeckian noted that Iran will align its commitments with the level of compliance from the U.S. He further stated that if the other party resorts to force, Iran will not accept it. The final basis for Iran’s actions will be the decisions of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
Earlier, the Iranian president reiterated the country’s commitment to continuing negotiations to protect its rights, emphasizing that Tehran will not be forced to bend.
Pajeckian made these remarks in an interview published on his office’s website on Friday. He defended the Iranian government’s decision to sign the MoU with the U.S. to facilitate dialogue and end the conflict.
He stated, “Iran will remain committed to its obligations as long as the U.S. fulfills its responsibilities under the memorandum. Wherever they fail to meet their commitments, we will have no obligation to continue ours.”
Earlier this week, Pajeckian denied rumors about stepping down, asserting that he will continue his work fully amid speculations of differences within Iran’s leadership regarding the MoU.
