Chennai, August 9: Rainfall occurred in Chennai and various parts of Tamil Nadu on Sunday. The meteorological department has forecast light to moderate rain in the state and neighboring Puducherry in the coming days.
Areas like Kodambakkam, Nungambakkam, Vadapalani, and T Nagar in Chennai experienced light to moderate rain, leading to a drop in temperature and providing relief from the heat. Suburban regions such as Perungalathur and Vandalur also saw rain. Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds was reported in some areas of Chengalpattu district.
In places like Thirumani, Vallam, and Alapakkam, rain lasted for over half an hour, disrupting normal activities in certain areas. Heavy rain in Ranipet district, particularly in Walajapet, Arakkonam, and Kaveripakkam, caused flooding in low-lying roads, creating difficulties for drivers and locals.
Moderate rain was reported in neighboring Tiruvallur district, particularly in areas like Vedanginallur, Tirupachur, Pullarambakkam, Poondi, Bhimanthoppu, Punnapakkam, and Ekkadu. The meteorological department has predicted moderate rain in districts near the Western Ghats on Sunday. Other parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry may also experience light to moderate rain in isolated areas.
Unstable weather conditions are expected to persist. The meteorological department has already indicated that moderate rain may continue in some parts of Tamil Nadu until August 14. Starting Monday, light to moderate rain is likely in various locations across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, suggesting intermittent rainfall in the upcoming week.
Meanwhile, no significant change in maximum temperatures is expected in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Sunday. The meteorological department states that the temperature pattern will likely remain stable from Monday to August 12, with maximum temperatures remaining relatively constant in most areas. However, a slight increase in daytime temperatures may occur in the interior regions of northern Tamil Nadu during this period.
In particular, areas like Chennai and its surrounding districts, which have been experiencing continuous rain, can expect some relief from daytime heat for a while.
