Ranchi, August 9: In a show of solidarity with students protesting against irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC recruitment exams, Jayaram Mahto, the president of the Jharkhand Democratic Revolutionary Front and MLA from Dumri, commenced a 24-hour hunger strike on Sunday morning.
Mahto initiated his fast at 6:50 AM in the old assembly complex in Ranchi. He stated that the purpose of his hunger strike is to amplify the voices of students currently demonstrating at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium. The students have been protesting since July 25, with many resorting to hunger strikes, leading to deteriorating health conditions. Despite this, the government has not taken the situation seriously.
He emphasized that while the students’ voices are resonating globally, they seem to be unheard by the state government. Mahto expressed that his fast aims to make the government aware of the students’ plight and the seriousness of their demands. He noted that if this initiative proves effective, it would be a positive outcome; otherwise, they would strategize the next steps in their ongoing struggle.
Mahto has called for the cancellation of all JPSC and JSSC recruitment exams organized through the TDPL agency. He also demanded the arrest of those involved in the alleged irregularities and called for a thorough investigation by the CBI and ED into the matter. Furthermore, he insisted on a fair inquiry into the roles of all JPSC and JSSC officials.
He warned that if any official is found implicated in the scandal, appropriate action should be taken against them. Mahto had previously announced his participation in the students’ proposed assembly march on August 10. The students are rallying in Ranchi, demanding a fair investigation into the alleged irregularities, paper leaks, and inconsistencies in the examination process for the JPSC and JSSC.
