Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Critiques Madhya Pradeshs UCC Law as Unconstitutional

Bareilly, August 16: Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi, the national president of the All India Muslim Jamaat, has voiced strong opposition to the Madhya Pradesh government’s implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He criticized the government’s unilateral decisions, claiming they target a specific community.

In response to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav’s announcement regarding the UCC, Maulana Razvi stated, “The Mohan Yadav government has been contemplating the UCC for several months. Now, this bill has been passed into law. The UCC is part of the BJP’s agenda. It has already been implemented in several BJP-ruled states, including Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Assam.”

He raised concerns about why indigenous communities are excluded from the UCC. “Are they not citizens of India? Is the UCC being implemented solely to provoke Muslims? Why are only Muslims being targeted?” he questioned.

Maulana Razvi emphasized that the Constitution mandates discussions with all communities and sects before implementing the UCC. He argued that it is being enforced unilaterally without consulting Muslims. “If it is being implemented, why are indigenous people excluded? They should also be included. There cannot be two standards in the country. The Madhya Pradesh government has enacted the UCC against the Constitution. Muslims are not obligated to accept the UCC,” he asserted.

Regarding the police inquiry into foreign funding of madrasas in West Bengal, he stated, “The government can investigate; we have no objections. Since the formation of the Suvendu Adhikari government in Bengal, it has been acting dictatorially. The government has initiated a new controversy regarding terror funding in madrasas. It can investigate madrasas as it wishes; they are open books with nothing to hide.”

He insisted, “Investigations should be transparent and in the national interest, but the government is targeting madrasas. It seems the government wants to obstruct the education of children studying in madrasas. This is illegal, but the public will not tolerate it for long.”

On Pakistan raising the Kashmir issue through the United Nations, Maulana Razvi made it clear, “India will not tolerate interference from a third party. Pakistan’s claims about resolving the Kashmir issue through the UN must be clarified: India will not accept any third-party intervention. Kashmir was ours yesterday, is ours today, and will remain ours in the future. Pakistan-occupied Kashmir is also an integral part of India. India has the strength to integrate POK whenever it chooses.”
