Maulana Appeals for a Drug-Free Society During Bakrid Celebrations in Poonch

Jammu, May 27: Eid-ul-Azha was celebrated with great devotion and joy across Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Many gathered in mosques, Eidgahs, and shrines in the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region to offer prayers and seek peace, brotherhood, and prosperity for the nation and the state.

The Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar witnessed the largest turnout, with over 60,000 people attending the Bakrid prayers. After the prayers, attendees embraced each other, exchanging greetings and promoting a message of peace and harmony within the community.

In the Mendhar sub-division of Poonch district, special prayers were also held for Eid-ul-Azha. A significant number of people participated in the prayers. During the event, the Maulana addressed the crowd, highlighting that Eid-ul-Azha is celebrated worldwide, and thousands gathered in Poonch to mark this occasion. He emphasized that Bakrid symbolizes not only religious faith but also conveys messages of sacrifice, brotherhood, and humanity.

The Maulana supported the government’s anti-drug campaign, urging the community to work together to rid society of the menace of substance abuse. He stressed the need for collective action to protect the youth and children from falling into the trap of addiction.

However, this year, the historic Jamia Masjid and Eidgah in Srinagar were again not permitted to hold Eid prayers, leading to dissatisfaction among local residents and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who was reportedly placed under house arrest as a precaution.

Meanwhile, in Jammu city, the festival was celebrated peacefully and harmoniously. A large number of people offered prayers at Eidgah on Residency Road, Mika Masjid in Bathindi, and Jamia Masjid in Talab Khatikhan. Following the prayers, traditional animal sacrifices were performed.
