New Delhi, Sept 9 (Kiran News): Maruti Suzuki’s first electric SUV, the e-Vitara, has received a 4-star safety rating in crash tests conducted by Euro NCAP. The testing was carried out on the 61 kWh GLX, LHD variant, but the results will apply to all versions of the model.

The e-Vitara scored 77% in adult occupant protection and 85% in child occupant protection, underlining its strong safety credentials as it prepares for launch.
India’s First Exported Electric SUV from Maruti
Maruti Suzuki recently started exporting the e-Vitara to Europe, marking its debut as the company’s first battery electric vehicle (BEV). In late August, over 2,900 units were shipped from Pipavav Port in Gujarat to 12 European countries, including Germany, the UK, Norway, France, Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria, and Belgium.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present at the company’s Hansalpur manufacturing facility in Gujarat last month to mark the start of e-Vitara’s production. He praised Maruti Suzuki as a brand ambassador for the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. Earlier this year, the SUV was also showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo.
Built on a Dedicated EV Platform
The e-Vitara has been developed on the specially designed HEARTECT-e platform for battery-powered electric vehicles. It features dual electric axles for the front and rear, paired with a single-speed drive transmission.
Buyers will have two battery pack options — 49 kWh and 61 kWh.
The 49 kWh variant delivers 142 bhp of power and 189 Nm of peak torque.
The 61 kWh variant generates 172 bhp and 189 Nm of peak torque.
On a single charge, the SUV is expected to offer a range of around 500 km. Inside, the e-Vitara is equipped with dual integrated screens, serving as both infotainment and digital driver display.
Growing EV Market in India
The launch of the e-Vitara comes at a time when India’s EV market is growing rapidly, led primarily by Tata Motors, which currently holds the largest share in the segment. Maruti Suzuki’s entry is expected to intensify competition in the electric SUV category.
