
New Delhi, June 14: Indian men’s hockey team midfielder Manpreet Singh has equaled the national record of 412 international matches held by former captain and current Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey. Manpreet achieved this milestone during a match against the Netherlands in Rotterdam on Saturday.
At 33 years old, Manpreet is the only active player in the elite club of athletes who have played over 400 senior international matches.
Congratulating Manpreet on this achievement, Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey stated, “I congratulate Manpreet for reaching this significant milestone. This is a remarkable accomplishment that reflects his dedication, commitment, and consistency over the years. I wish him the best for upcoming matches and hope to see him play many more times. We are grateful for his continuous contributions to Indian hockey.”
Hockey India’s Secretary General, Bhola Nath Singh, also praised the experienced midfielder for his contributions to the national team.
He remarked, “Manpreet Singh’s journey with the Indian men’s hockey team showcases his immense dedication to the sport. Reaching 412 international matches is a fantastic achievement. It proves that he has shown consistency while representing the country at the highest level over the years.”
Bhola Nath Singh added, “Manpreet has played a crucial role in India’s resurgence on the global stage. As a senior member of the team, his leadership and ability to perform under pressure have made him an inspiration for emerging hockey players across the country.”
Over the past decade, Manpreet has been a key figure in the team’s progress. He has participated in several Olympic Games, World Cups, Asian Games, and Champions Trophy campaigns. He was also an integral member of the Indian team that won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
