India and South Africa Heat Up Semi-Final Race in Womens T20 World Cup

New Delhi, June 26: The semi-final race in Group A of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 has become thrilling. On Thursday, the Indian team defeated Bangladesh by 5 wickets, while South Africa crushed the Netherlands by 88 runs. Both teams remain in contention for a spot in the final four.

After four matches, India has accumulated 6 points. Under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian team is currently in second place in the Group A standings. India will face Australia in their final group stage match on Sunday. Australia remains unbeaten in the tournament, sitting at the top with 8 points from 4 matches. For India to advance to the semi-finals, they must secure a victory against Australia. If Harmanpreet’s squad manages to defeat Australia, they will earn a direct ticket to the final four.

India holds a significant advantage over South Africa in terms of net run rate. Even if the Proteas achieve a big win in their last match, they will not surpass India. After defeating the Netherlands, South Africa will play their final group stage match against Ireland on Sunday. To reach the semi-finals, South Africa must win against Ireland by a large margin and hope that Australia defeats India.

Bangladesh is not completely out of the semi-final race yet. However, they will need a miracle to advance. Bangladesh must beat South Africa by more than 100 runs and hope that India loses to Australia by at least 130 runs. Currently, Bangladesh has 4 points from their 4 matches.
