Bristol, June 26: In an impressive display, South Africa triumphed over the Netherlands in the 24th match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Playing at the County Ground, the Proteas set a formidable target of 209 runs. The Netherlands, in response, managed only 120 runs, losing 8 wickets in their 20 overs. This significant victory strengthens South Africa’s bid for a place in the semifinals.
The Netherlands started their innings with a steady partnership between Febe Molkenboer and Sanya Khurana, who added 58 runs for the first wicket. Sanya scored 36 runs off 30 balls, hitting six boundaries, while Febe contributed 41 runs. Number three batter Sterre Kalis added 26 runs, but Babette de Leede could only manage 11 before returning to the pavilion.
Following this promising start, the Netherlands struggled, losing wickets at regular intervals and barely crossing the 100-run mark. Six of their batters failed to reach double figures. For South Africa, Ayabonga Khaka excelled with the ball, taking 3 wickets for just 19 runs, while Chloe Tryon claimed 2 wickets for 16 runs in her 4-over spell.
Earlier, South Africa posted a total of 208 runs, losing only one wicket in their innings. Captain Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits provided a strong foundation, adding 121 runs for the first wicket in 13.3 overs. Wolvaardt scored 45 runs off 36 balls, including six fours.
Brits showcased her exceptional batting skills, scoring an unbeaten 114 runs off 69 balls, featuring 15 fours and 3 sixes. In the closing overs, Anneke Dercksen contributed a quick 37 runs off just 16 balls, hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes. The only wicket for the Netherlands was taken by Hannah Landheer.
