
Antigua, June 26: The first Test match between West Indies and Sri Lanka is underway at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. The opening day belonged to the Sri Lankan batsmen, who managed to score 308 runs in their first innings. Dhananjaya de Silva stood out with a remarkable century.
West Indies captain Roston Chase won the toss and opted to field first. Sri Lanka’s start was rocky, with Pathum Nissanka dismissed for just 2 runs by Kemar Roach. Nishan Madushka also struggled, returning to the pavilion after scoring 23 runs. Kamindu Mendis was out without scoring.
However, Dinesh Chandimal and Dhananjaya de Silva steadied the innings. They forged a crucial partnership of 68 runs for the fourth wicket. Chandimal scored 54 runs off 67 balls, hitting eight boundaries before getting out. Dhananjaya played a stellar innings, scoring 120 runs off 168 balls, including 17 fours. Kusal Mendis also went out without scoring, while Sonal Dinuja contributed 43 runs. Milan Priyanath Ratnayake added 27 runs, and Lahiru Kumara remained not out at 12. Sri Lanka saw three batsmen dismissed without scoring.
In bowling, Justin Greaves was impressive for West Indies, taking 3 wickets for 39 runs. Shemar Joseph claimed 2 wickets for 79 runs, while Kemar Roach and Alzarri Joseph each took two wickets. By the end of the day, West Indies had the chance to bat for one over, with John Campbell and Brandon King yet to score.
Previously, Sri Lanka won the ODI series 1-0, while the West Indies performed strongly in the T20 series, claiming it 2-1.
