Manisha Bhanwala Aims for Gold at Asian Games 2026, Confident in Indian Teams Strength

New Delhi, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : Manisha Bhanwala, the reigning Asian champion, is gearing up for a fierce competition in the women’s 57-kilogram category at the upcoming Asian Games. The wrestler from New Delhi expressed her confidence in the talent present in her weight class but acknowledged that the outcome will depend on who manages pressure best on the day of the event.

Speaking before the Indian team’s departure for the Games, Bhanwala emphasized the high level of competition across Asia. Despite her confidence from winning the continental title in 2025, she is aware that complacency is not an option. “Asia is very strong. I can only speak for my weight category. We have four strong girls competing. It all comes down to how my body feels on the day of the match,” she stated.

Currently training at the national camp, Bhanwala is under close scrutiny regarding her workload, with adjustments made based on her physical needs for each session. “We are in the Indian camp, and preparations are going well. We train for three hours in the morning. Then we assess how our bodies have handled the load and adjust our evening training accordingly,” she explained.

Bhanwala is not just participating in the Asian Games; she has set her sights on a significant goal. “My aim is to win a gold medal. I have always wanted to win a gold medal. I was the Asian champion in 2025, and I hope to see something similar again,” she shared.

She also expressed optimism for the entire Indian team, highlighting their strength. “The Indian team is very strong. I hope everyone will bring home a medal,” she added.

Training with Japanese coach Akashi (Kosei) has been a vital part of her preparation. Bhanwala credited her coach for significantly enhancing various aspects of her training. “Our federation has provided us with excellent coaches. Coach Akashi’s methods are fantastic. He has helped us a lot in wrestling, fitness, and speed training,” she noted.

For Bhanwala, the significance of the Asian Games extends beyond just winning medals. Her performance has inspired young girls in her village to take up wrestling, adding another layer of motivation for her success in Japan. “My entire village supports me. They are very proud of me. Many girls have started wrestling because of me. If I win a medal, the entire village, district, and country will celebrate. My family does not pressure me for gold or any medal; they just ask me to give my best,” she stated.

Bhanwala advised young wrestlers to stay dedicated and work hard. “Success does not come easily. One must take every task seriously and put in continuous hard work,” she concluded.
