
Nishin, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : Abhishek Sharma, India’s star opener, made headlines on Saturday during the gold medal match against Pakistan at the Asian Games held in Nishin. He scored a quickfire 61 runs off just 28 balls, playing a crucial role in propelling his team to a total of 211 runs for the loss of six wickets.
During this explosive innings, Abhishek achieved several milestones. With his seventh six, he reached the remarkable feat of 400 sixes in T20 cricket, bringing his total to 405.
In the race for the fastest 400 sixes in T20 history, Abhishek surpassed legendary cricketer Chris Gayle. While Gayle took 3,557 balls to hit his 400 sixes, Abhishek accomplished this in just 3,513 balls.
The record for the fastest 400 sixes still belongs to West Indies’ Andre Russell, who achieved the milestone in 3,027 balls.
Additionally, Abhishek set another significant record with his innings, marking his 100th T20 six of 2026. He now ranks second for the fastest 100 sixes in a calendar year, having reached this mark in 651 balls. He outpaced both South Africa‘s Dewald Brevis and Chris Gayle in this category, while Andre Russell remains the fastest to 100 sixes in a year.
Since his debut on July 6, 2024, Abhishek Sharma has established himself as one of the top T20 openers globally. In 62 matches, he has scored 1,926 runs, including three centuries and 13 half-centuries.
