Imphal, March 28: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh reiterated his government’s full commitment to supporting higher education and skill development in the state.
The Chief Minister addressed the 15th convocation ceremony of Manipur University alongside the state’s Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla.
He stated that the government will continue to collaborate with institutions like Manipur University to provide the best opportunities for the youth.
Singh emphasized that the convocation is not merely a formal event but a celebration of human spirit, perseverance, hard work, and the limitless potential of graduating students.
He acknowledged that the students’ dedication and struggle have brought them to this proud moment.
For years, Manipur University has been a hub of intellectual activity, pushing the boundaries of knowledge and addressing complex social challenges through rigorous research and critical thinking.
He also noted that the university is preparing today’s youth to be the pillars and engines of development for both the state and the nation.
The Chief Minister expressed joy that in the past two years, 572 students from Manipur University have secured jobs in both the government and private sectors.
He stressed that graduates carry not only degrees but also the values, knowledge, and responsibilities imparted by the university, inspiring them to contribute to the nation’s development.
Singh urged students to draw inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, which encourages youth to become “job creators rather than job seekers.”
On this occasion, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla remarked that this moment is one of pride and satisfaction for graduates, marking the end of their academic journey and the beginning of new responsibilities and opportunities.
During the ceremony, degrees were conferred to over 1,000 students, with 332 receiving gold medals for outstanding academic achievements.
Notably, this convocation was held after a gap of 12 years, the last one taking place in 2013.
Students and faculty from Bethany College, Churachandpur; Presidency College, Motbung (Kangpokpi); and Moreh College, Moreh participated virtually in the event.
The ceremony was attended by Chancellor Prof. T. Tirupati Rao, Vice-Chancellor Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Secretary General of the Association of Indian Universities Pankaj Mittal, various department deans, faculty, and students.
