Manav Suthars Spin Magic Leads India to Strong Position Against Afghanistan

New Chandigarh, June 7: Left-arm spinner Manav Suthar, who took three wickets in the ongoing Test match against Afghanistan at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, stated that trusting his strengths and consistently bowling in the right areas contributed to his success in the match.

After the second day’s play, Suthar elaborated on his bowling strategy. He aimed to capitalize on the assistance from the pitch by maintaining accuracy in his deliveries.

“My focus during the spell was on bowling in the right areas and trusting my abilities. The pitch was offering help, so I aimed to bowl consistently at the right length,” he explained.

When asked about his strengths, Suthar mentioned, “The pitch provided some assistance, and my strength lies in turning the ball. Therefore, my goal was to achieve as much turn as possible, given the conditions. I also wanted to bowl accurately and consistently at the right length, as that was where the assistance was coming from. My complete focus was on this.”

Suthar credited his success to captain Shubman Gill, saying that Gill’s understanding of his game has been beneficial.

“We have played together, so he understands my strengths and my bowling style well. Based on that, he guides me on field placements, match situations, and the lines and lengths I should bowl,” Suthar added.

Making his international debut in this Test against Afghanistan, Suthar was included in the team as a bowling all-rounder. He has already made an impact with both bat and ball in his first Test.

Batting at number eight, Suthar scored 28 runs off 41 balls. In bowling, he delivered 15.5 overs, including seven maidens, conceding just 21 runs while claiming three wickets.

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar also praised Suthar’s all-round performance.

On the second day of the Test, Afghanistan found themselves in a tough spot, losing five wickets for just 113 runs. The Indian team declared their first innings at 564 runs for the loss of eight wickets.
