Wimbledon 2026: Bouzkova and Navarro Advance to Third Round

London, July 2: Marie Bouzkova and Emma Navarro have secured their spots in the third round of the women’s singles at Wimbledon 2026. The two athletes faced each other in the Nottingham Open final just two weeks ago.

On Thursday, at the All England Club in London, Bouzkova defeated Italy’s qualifier Tyra Caterina Grant in straight sets, while Navarro triumphed over Oksana Selechmeteva in a three-set match to advance.

Seeded 21st, Bouzkova overcame Grant with a score of 7-5, 6-3, marking her third appearance in the Wimbledon third round. Her best Grand Slam performance came in 2022 when she reached the quarter-finals. The Czech player now holds a 7-2 record on grass courts this season.

Next, Bouzkova will face last year’s Wimbledon quarter-finalist Liudmila Samsonova, who defeated 15th seed Diana Schneider 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 to secure her place in the next round. In their head-to-head encounters on the WTA Tour, Samsonova leads 3-2, although Bouzkova won their only previous match on grass.

On the other hand, Emma Navarro, who lost to Bouzkova in the Nottingham final, achieved a victory against Oksana Selechmeteva with scores of 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, marking her third consecutive year reaching the third round at the All England Club. The American player reached the quarter-finals in 2024 and the fourth round last year.

Navarro has won 14 of her last 18 tour-level matches. She is set to face either 12th seed Marta Kostyuk or Anna Blinkova next.

Earlier on Wednesday, in a thrilling match between Grand Slam champions, Barbora Krejcikova defeated fifth seed Mira Andreeva 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. The two-time Grand Slam champion will face fellow Czech player Nikola Bartunkova in the third round, who advanced by defeating 32nd seed Katerina Siniakova 6-2, 4-0.
