Ahmedabad Hosts FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers Window 3

Ahmedabad, July 2: Ahmedabad is hosting the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers – Window 3. The Indian men’s basketball team will face two strong Asian opponents from July 2 to July 5, 2026, at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Naranpura. India kicked off its campaign on July 2 against Qatar and will take on Lebanon on July 5.

Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister, Harsh Sanghvi, stated that Ahmedabad is gradually emerging as a major venue for international sporting events across various disciplines. He emphasized that the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers (Window 3) is taking place at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, which recently hosted the AVC Men’s Volleyball Cup.

The AVC Men’s Volleyball Cup occurred in Ahmedabad from June 20 to June 28, 2026, marking India’s first time hosting this tournament.

Harsh Sanghvi remarked, “Ahmedabad is rapidly establishing itself as a premier sports event destination. Hosting another major international basketball tournament just a week after the Asian Volleyball Championship showcases Gujarat’s world-class sports infrastructure and our commitment to promoting international sports events in the state.”

These matches are part of India’s campaign in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers. Under the leadership of Head Coach Scott Fleming, the Indian team is undergoing a rebuilding process, focusing on developing young talents and gaining international experience.

Currently ranked 76th in the world and 14th in Asia, India aims to improve its performance after a challenging start to the qualification campaign. The home-ground advantage in Ahmedabad is expected to significantly boost the team’s morale as they strive to compete strongly against experienced opponents.

The Indian squad includes players like Kanwar Sandhu, Pranav Prince, Principal Singh, and Harsh Dagar, who have recently shown promising performances.
