Mumbai, July 2: In an exciting day at the USD 15,000 SRFI PSA Challenger tournament, top-seeded Indian player V. Senthilkumar and third-seeded Tanvi Khanna secured their spots in the quarter-finals held at the Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club in Mumbai.

Senthilkumar overcame a rocky start to defeat Egypt’s fourth seed Abdullah Hafeez in straight games, winning 15-13, 11-4, 11-3. Meanwhile, Tanvi triumphed over Japan’s eighth seed Jo Fu with a score of 11-6, 11-7, 8-11, 11-6.

To reach the finals, Senthilkumar will face Egypt’s second seed Yassin Shohdi, who easily defeated Japan’s seventh seed Tomotaka Endo 11-8, 11-8, 11-4. Tanvi will compete against Japan’s sixth seed Akari Midorikawa, who advanced after defeating Shamima Riaz in four games late Wednesday night.

In the men’s second semi-final, Malaysia’s Syafiq Kamal will take on Egypt’s eighth seed Ziad Ibrahim. The women’s second semi-final will feature an all-Egyptian matchup, with second seed Farida Walid facing fourth seed Nour Khafagi.

Earlier in the tournament, Senthilkumar started strong, while Om Semwal also performed well but ultimately faced defeat. This tournament is part of the USD 15,000 HCL-SRFI PSA Challenger series, hosted by the Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club on their air-conditioned courts.

Senthilkumar had a comfortable victory over Ayan Waziralli, winning 11-4, 11-9, 11-6. Fourth seed Hafeez and seventh seed Endo also advanced to the quarter-finals with straight-game victories.

Semwal, who had previously upset the third seed in a thrilling five-game match, was on the verge of another upset against Ibrahim. However, he ultimately lost in a nail-biting contest, finishing 11-9, 11-13, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9.
