Jammu, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic incident unfolded in Jammu where a 35-year-old man was shot dead inside his home. The police confirmed the event on Thursday, stating that the victim, identified as Deepak Sharma, was a newspaper vendor residing in the Reshamgarh Colony.
According to relatives, an unidentified assailant entered Sharma’s home during the afternoon and shot him in the forehead. Following the shooting, law enforcement arrived at the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and to identify the shooter.
The body of the victim has been sent to the Government Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. As the investigation progresses, authorities are awaiting further information.
This shooting is part of a troubling trend in Jammu, where recent weeks have seen a rise in organized crime, theft, and financial offenses. In a related crackdown, Jammu police recently arrested six members of a gang known as ‘Khawf Gang’ following a shooting incident in Arnia, seizing several weapons and live ammunition in the process.
Reports of property crimes, such as burglaries and gold thefts, have also emerged from suburban areas like Miran Sahib. The Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch’s Economic Offenses Wing is actively addressing financial frauds, including fake KYC documents and scams related to government jobs.
Additionally, Jammu police have maintained a vigorous campaign against drug-related crimes, conducting regular checkpoints and targeted raids that have led to the arrest of drug traffickers and the confiscation of significant quantities of narcotics.
Violence incidents at the local level, sometimes involving minors, have drawn particular attention. Recently, police utilized CCTV and technical surveillance to solve a serious attempted murder case in Domana, leading to the apprehension of several children with criminal records and the recovery of weapons. Authorities have also been quick to act on violent incidents stemming from everyday disputes, such as parking arguments that escalate into shootings.
