Kishanganj, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : A significant drug operation unfolded in Kishanganj, Bihar, where the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and local police arrested a suspected smuggler on September 17. The joint team acted on intelligence regarding illegal drug trafficking in the area.
The arrested individual, identified as Bablu Giri from Lohagada Haat, was found in possession of approximately 405 grams of heroin and 183 grams of MDMA, amounting to a total of 588 grams. The estimated street value of these drugs is around ₹1.30 crore.
Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar, the operation targeted drug traffickers based on a tip-off about Giri’s activities. Following verification, a raid was conducted at his residence led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Manoj Kumar Singh.
During the search, authorities not only recovered the narcotics but also confiscated a country-made firearm, ₹1,01,300 in cash, six mobile phones, six debit cards, two swords, and an electronic scale. Additionally, three PhonePe scanners were seized.
In police questioning, Giri admitted to being involved in the illegal drug trade. Investigators are now working to identify other members of his network and trace the supply chain of the seized heroin and MDMA. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act.
Records indicate that Giri has a criminal history, with three prior cases filed against him at the Bahadurganj and Dighalbank police stations, including charges of assault, attempted murder, theft, arson, and a violation of the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act from 2024.
Authorities are also focusing on tracking down the illicit assets gained through drug trafficking for confiscation. In a related operation, Kishanganj police seized a large quantity of foreign liquor, totaling 3,420 liters, along with a truck in the Kochadhaman area.
