Gwalior, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : Authorities in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, swiftly apprehended a man accused of harassing two minor girls after CCTV footage of the incident went viral. The suspect, identified as Yuvraj Rawat, was taken into custody at the Bithwar bus stand.
Reports indicate that Rawat stopped the girls while they were returning home from a coaching class on SITM School Road in Bithwar. He allegedly made lewd comments and slapped one of the girls before fleeing the scene. The incident was captured on nearby CCTV cameras.
The footage circulated on social media, inciting public outrage. In response, local police began identifying the suspect, and one of the victims’ families filed a formal complaint at the Bithwar police station.
Rawat has been charged under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for assault and harassment, as well as under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police Sub-Divisional Officer Manish Yadav stated that immediate action was ordered upon reviewing the CCTV footage. Using local intelligence and technical surveillance, officers tracked Rawat’s movements and arrested him as he attempted to leave the area.
Following his arrest, Rawat was presented in court and subsequently remanded to jail. Investigations are ongoing, with police confirming that both minors have been identified. Their statements were recorded in the presence of family members and a female police officer, adhering to POCSO protocols.
Officials are currently analyzing the CCTV footage, the complaint, and other evidence to gain a clearer understanding of the incident. Investigators are also looking into whether any other individuals were involved or if Rawat has a criminal history.
