Chandigarh, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : Punjab Police has issued a fact check regarding a viral advisory circulating on social media. The department clarified that no such advisory has been released and that the messages circulating online are entirely false.
In a post from their official ‘X’ handle, Punjab Police stated, “Fact Check. False Advisory. No instructions or advisory have been issued by the Punjab Police Headquarters or any of its offices directing personnel not to wear uniforms while commuting to and from duty.” The police emphasized that these messages are misleading and should not be taken seriously.
The police urged both citizens and officers to rely solely on official channels for accurate information. Recently, a message claiming that the Punjab Police Headquarters instructed its personnel to travel in plain clothes for security reasons had been rapidly spreading on social media and WhatsApp groups. This misinformation created confusion among both police officers and the general public.
To clarify the situation, Punjab Police felt it necessary to issue an official statement. Police officials noted that such fake news not only undermines the morale of the police force but also fosters misconceptions among the public.
Punjab Police has appealed to the public to verify information before sharing it and to trust only the verified social media accounts and official websites of the police. Additionally, they mentioned that they are monitoring those spreading false advisories and may take legal action if necessary.
