Chandigarh, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : The Haryana Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has made significant strides in dismantling an international narco-terror network, leading to the arrest of seven suspects. This operation marks the first successful case resolved by the ATS.
On September 13, authorities responded to a shooting incident at the Alif Laila Club in Panchkula. Upon arrival, they discovered that a young woman had been injured and required medical assistance. Initial investigations revealed that five men had arrived at the club in two vehicles. During their visit, a dispute arose, prompting one of the suspects to pull out a firearm and fire two shots, injuring a woman.
Police Superintendent Varun Singla reported that seven individuals have been apprehended so far. Three were captured at the scene, while one was arrested in Mohali, Punjab, and three others in Ludhiana. During the initial arrests, a cash counting machine was also seized.
Further inquiries and technical analysis uncovered critical evidence linking the suspects to an international narco-terror network. Investigators found that some operators of this network are based abroad, particularly in the United States, providing the accused with housing, vehicles, and funds to facilitate the transport of weapons and drugs to designated locations.
Given the case’s severity, the investigation was handed over to the ATS. Following this, one suspect involved in the shooting was arrested on September 15, leading to significant leads regarding the network’s weapon supply operations.
On September 19, another suspect acting as an intermediary was detained in Ludhiana, where 529 grams of ‘chitta’ (a type of drug) were confiscated. This led to the filing of an additional case by the ATS related to drug trafficking.
Based on information from the suspects, police conducted a raid in Ludhiana, resulting in the recovery of a vehicle, another cash counting machine, and other crucial evidence. The suspects’ mobile phones have been seized, and technical analysis is underway.
Superintendent Singla confirmed that the investigation revealed the accused were working for the international narco-terror network. Allegations suggest that the network used local handlers to transport drugs, weapons, and other illicit materials across borders via drones, providing them with vehicles and financial support for these operations.
