Jagatsinghpur, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : In Jagatsinghpur, Odisha, a man has been arrested for the brutal murder of his wife, igniting fear in the local community. The incident reportedly stemmed from the man’s suspicions regarding his wife’s fidelity.
The crime took place in the outskirts of Jagatsinghpur city, in the village of Jankoti. According to police sources, the suspect, identified as Digambar Swain, lived with his wife, Pushpalata, and their seven-year-old son. It is alleged that Digambar frequently quarreled with Pushpalata due to his doubts about her character.
Local villagers and the village head had intervened multiple times, advising the couple to resolve their differences peacefully. On the night of the incident, Digambar allegedly returned home intoxicated and began verbally assaulting Pushpalata, accusing her of infidelity. This led to a heated argument between the two.
Reports indicate that as the altercation escalated, Digambar picked up a metal rod and fatally attacked Pushpalata. She died at the scene from her injuries. After realizing his wife was dead, Digambar attempted to flee, but local residents apprehended him and alerted the police.
Authorities arrived around 1 a.m. to secure the crime scene and retrieve the body. Digambar was taken to the police station, where he reportedly confessed to the crime during questioning.
The local police are currently investigating the case further. The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) stated that Digambar will be presented in court following the completion of the post-mortem report.
