Mamata Banerjee Criticized for Alleged Neglect During Presidents Visit

Kolkata, March 7: The Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, sharply criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday. This criticism followed President Droupadi Murmu’s expressed dissatisfaction over the state government’s allocation of a small venue for the 9th International Santhal Conference in the Darjeeling district, where she was the chief guest.

Using his X handle, Adhikari stated that the current spectacle in West Bengal reflects the crumbling empire of Mamata Banerjee. He described it as a blatant attack on constitutional sanctity and tribal dignity.

Earlier in the day, the President’s event was originally scheduled to take place in Phansidewa, also in Darjeeling. However, due to security concerns, the state administration denied permission for the event there, forcing organizers to relocate it to a smaller venue in Gosaiyapur at the last minute.

President Murmu expressed her displeasure regarding the last-minute change of venue. She also noted that neither Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee nor any of her cabinet colleagues met her during the state visit, which she deemed contrary to established traditions and protocols for presidential visits.

Supporting the President, Adhikari remarked that every protocol rule was disregarded, forcing President Droupadi Murmu to voice her justified anger over the poor arrangements and gross disrespect during her Siliguri visit. He pointed out that no red carpet was laid out in her honor, and there was a conspicuous absence of state machinery, highlighting the TMC government’s blatant disregard.

Further attacking Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the BJP leader stated that it was even more concerning that the Banerjee administration completely dismissed the International Santhal Conference. He questioned the whereabouts of Banerjee and her ministers, noting their absence and the lack of adherence to protocol and decorum, which marginalized the country’s highest office.

According to him, this was not a mere oversight but a calculated act of contempt. He emphasized that a closer look reveals Mamata Banerjee’s anti-tribal sentiments. He recalled the long line of assembly members who voted against President Murmu during the presidential election, indicating that Banerjee has yet to accept that a powerful tribal woman has achieved the highest office in the Republic for the first time since independence.

Adhikari concluded by stating that the Chief Minister has become one who divides Bengal. He accused her of being fundamentally anti-tribal, evading accountability, and orchestrating institutional chaos. He declared that the time for change and respect has arrived.
