Tragic Accidents on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Claim Four Lives in Ratlam

Ratlam, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Two separate road accidents on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, resulted in the deaths of four individuals and left eight others injured on Tuesday. The incidents occurred within a two-hour span on the eight-lane expressway, under the jurisdiction of the Javra Industrial Police Station.

The first accident took place around 4:30 AM when a car transporting a family from Punjab, traveling from Ambala to Mumbai, collided with the divider. According to police reports, the vehicle broke through a section of the railing and fell into a 30 to 40-foot deep gorge. Tragically, 67-year-old Narendra Kaur and her 32-year-old daughter-in-law, Manpreet Kaur, lost their lives in this crash. Additionally, three others, including an elderly man and two children, sustained injuries.

Prakash Gadiya, the officer in charge of the Javra Industrial Police Station, suggested that the driver might have dozed off due to high speed, resulting in the loss of control and subsequent collision with the railing. Upon receiving information from other drivers, police arrived at the scene and transported the injured to a local hospital in Javra. They were later referred to Ratlam Medical College for further treatment.

While police were inspecting the first accident site, a second vehicle, carrying another family from Dahod, Gujarat, crashed around 6:30 AM. This car reportedly became airborne after hitting the divider before plunging into the gorge. Ravi Hatila, 35, and Ramesh Makwana, 50, both residents of Dahod, died in this incident, while four to five others in the vehicle were injured.

Gadiya noted that the damaged railing from the first accident may have contributed to the second crash occurring shortly thereafter. The family from Gujarat was returning home after seeking medical treatment in Uttar Pradesh.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding both accidents, focusing on the condition of the road infrastructure and the reasons for the drivers losing control.
