Major Setback for Mamata Banerjee as Firhad Hakim Resigns from Kolkata Mayor Position

Kolkata, June 3: The political landscape in West Bengal is experiencing significant turmoil, with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) facing a deepening crisis. Sources indicate that Kolkata’s Mayor and senior TMC leader Firhad Hakim has expressed his intention to resign from his position and has sought approval from party supremo Mamata Banerjee.

Reports suggest that Mamata Banerjee has granted her consent to his request, although no official announcement has been made yet.

This development comes at a time when the TMC is grappling with one of its most severe internal crises in its political history. A substantial number of party legislators have openly rallied behind expelled MLA Ritabrata Banerjee, challenging the current leadership structure.

Firhad Hakim, regarded as one of Mamata Banerjee’s closest allies and a prominent face of the party, has recently been at the center of political discussions. His participation in an administrative review meeting at Nabanna, led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, has sparked various speculations in political circles.

Meanwhile, open rebellion within the TMC has also surfaced. Recent reports indicate that a group of 58 out of 80 legislators formally decided on Wednesday to support Ritabrata Banerjee as the new leader of the assembly party.

The news of Firhad Hakim’s resignation and the actions of TMC legislators have stirred the political scene in West Bengal. Political analysts believe that if this crisis escalates further, significant changes could occur in the state’s political dynamics. All eyes are currently on Mamata Banerjee and the next steps of TMC leadership.
