New Delhi, June 3: The Trinamool Congress (TMC), which has held power in West Bengal for 15 years, is on the brink of fragmentation. To prevent this, party leader and former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has made a significant decision. All party committees and frontal organizations will be dissolved immediately.
The decision follows the arrival of expelled TMC MLA Ritabrata Banerjee at the West Bengal Assembly on Wednesday, accompanied by support letters from 59 party legislators. He claimed that his faction is the main opposition party in the state, while the loyalists of Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee are now in the minority.
In a post on the social media platform X, TMC stated that after careful consideration, it has been decided to dissolve all committees of the All India Trinamool Congress and its frontal organizations with immediate effect.
The post further elaborated that the party will conduct a comprehensive exercise of self-reflection, performance review, and organizational assessment at all levels. Based on the findings of this exercise, the organizational structure of the core bodies and all frontal organizations will be restructured, with announcements to be made in due course. The party is committed to strengthening its organization and facing future challenges with renewed vigor and purpose.
Recently, during a meeting called by Mamata Banerjee for TMC legislators, 60 members distanced themselves from the gathering. This sparked speculation about a potential split in the party. Additionally, on Monday, both Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha were suspended from the TMC.
Following his suspension, Ritabrata Banerjee criticized TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee’s demand for security, questioning his credibility as a public leader. He pointed out that after the party’s significant defeat, Abhishek remained out of public view for 26 days. Now, he is seeking protection from central forces, despite previously claiming that the public would safeguard him.
Ritabrata also accused Abhishek Banerjee of running the TMC in a corporate style, asserting that the party is entirely dependent on the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC).
