Ahmedabad, May 17: In a significant operation, police in Gujarat’s Dahod district seized over ₹2.56 crore in unaccounted cash from a car. This success came during a routine vehicle inspection. The authorities have confiscated the entire amount and initiated an investigation into the matter.
According to reports, a regular vehicle check was being conducted near the Dhanpur Chowkadi in Limkheda when police stopped an Ertiga car for inspection. During the search, the police team discovered three suspicious parcels inside the vehicle. With police officials present, the parcels were opened, revealing bundles of cash.
The counting of the notes was conducted in front of the officers, revealing a total of ₹2,56,80,500. Preliminary investigations suggest that this money was being transported from a money-lending firm in Dahod to Vadodara. The driver has been identified as Rajubhai Ninama. During questioning, he failed to provide any valid documents or legal proof related to such a large sum of money.
The driver claimed that Bharat Chopra, a resident of Dahod, had entrusted him with the task of delivering the cash to Vadodara.
The Limkheda police have seized the entire amount under the relevant sections of the B.N.S.S. and deposited it into the government treasury. Additionally, a case has been officially registered in the station diary, and the Income Tax Department has been informed. The police are currently investigating the source of the cash, its intended use, and the entire network involved.
It is noteworthy that just last week, four individuals, including a sub-registrar, were arrested in Gujarat for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹2.5 lakh. According to the Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), the complainant had approached the office to register documents for a residential property.
During the process, sub-registrar Akash Desai initially raised some objections. Subsequently, contract employees at the office intervened, demanding a bribe to complete the documentation process. The complainant, refusing to pay the bribe, contacted the ACB for assistance.
