Motihari, July 15: In a significant operation, police in East Champaran district of Bihar raided multiple locations associated with notorious criminal Naresh Pandey on Wednesday. The raid resulted in the seizure of approximately ₹16 lakh in cash, weapons, Nepalese currency, gold and silver jewelry, and land-related documents. During the operation, his associate, Ujjwal Kumar, was arrested, while the main suspect, Naresh Pandey, remains at large. Authorities are actively pursuing his capture.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Swarn Prabhat reported that they received a tip-off about a major illegal deal being prepared at Pandey’s hideout in the Chhatauni police station area. Taking the information seriously, a special team led by a trainee DSP was formed, and simultaneous raids were conducted with a heavy police presence.
During the operation, police recovered around ₹16 lakh in cash, a currency counting machine, Nepalese currency, a loaded country-made pistol, six live cartridges, a bottle of alcohol, and a substantial amount of gold and silver jewelry valued at over ₹80 lakh, along with more than two dozen land documents.
All seized items have been confiscated, and an investigation is underway. The SP indicated that Ujjwal Kumar is being interrogated. Authorities are examining the sources of the cash, weapons, and documents, suspecting a connection to illegal activities. Naresh Pandey is known as a notorious criminal in the district, with 18 criminal cases registered against him in various police stations in Motihari, including charges of robbery, extortion, attempted murder, violations of the Arms Act, fraud, and other serious offenses.
According to a list released by the police, cases against him have been filed from 2009 to 2025 across several police stations, including Chhatauni, Nagar, Mufassil, and Piprakothi, under serious sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Arms Act, and the Indian Justice Code (BNS). The SP stated that efforts to apprehend the main suspect are ongoing, with continuous raids at potential hideouts. Further legal actions will be taken based on the seized items and documents.
Following this police operation, there is a sense of panic among local criminals, while residents have praised the campaign as a significant step against organized crime.
