Major Drug Bust in Jharkhand: Over 700 Kilograms of Opium Seized, Three Traffickers Arrested

Ranchi, March 31: Jharkhand police have achieved a significant success in their ongoing campaign against narcotics. During raids conducted in the capital, Ranchi, and Palamu district, authorities seized a total of 716 kilograms of illegal opium (the raw material for opium production).

In these operations, three traffickers were arrested, and luxury vehicles used for smuggling, along with cash worth millions, were confiscated. Based on a tip-off received by Palamu’s Superintendent of Police, Rishma Ramesh, a special team led by DSP Rajiv Ranjan conducted a blockade in the Manatu police station area. Around 12:30 AM on Monday night, a suspicious gray Mahindra XUV-500 was stopped during vehicle checks near the Manatu police station gate. Upon inspection, 216 kilograms of illegal opium was discovered inside the vehicle.

The police apprehended Sanjeev Sharma from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, and Nizamuddin Rain from Kandi, Garhwa, at the scene. The market value of the seized opium is estimated to be around 3.5 million rupees. During interrogation, the suspects admitted to purchasing opium from areas like Lawaloung and Pratappur in Chatra and transporting it to Uttar Pradesh at high prices.

Meanwhile, Ranchi police conducted a raid on a house in the Namkum area on Tuesday, leading to the recovery of a large stash of opium. Authorities had received information that an individual was hiding a significant quantity of narcotics in his home. Following verification, this operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 500 kilograms of opium and over 200,000 rupees in cash.

One suspect has been arrested in this case and is currently being interrogated at a secure location. In both cases, police are now working to uncover the opium supply chain and interstate network. Ranchi police are trying to identify other influential individuals involved in this illegal trade. Nizamuddin Rain, arrested in Palamu, has a criminal history and has previously faced charges under the NDPS Act.
